About

Feminist Periodicals is an open access repository of digitized contents information for over 125 academic journals and popular magazines in the fields of gender and women's studies, sexuality studies, and LGBTQIA+ studies. Since many international and grassroots titles are not indexed in standard sources, Feminist Periodicals is the best key to their contents.

Feminist Periodicals is made available through the Office of the Gender and Women's Studies Librarian at the University of Wisconsin. We seek to represent diverse resources that focus on feminism, gender and women's studies, sexuality studies, and LGBTQIA+ studies. Our goal is to highlight the imperative scholarship and work being done by scholars, organizers, journalists, and others across the globe.

The first issue of Feminist Periodicals was published in 1981, put together using scissors, glue, and a copier. It was made available in PDF form in 2008, and now in its third iteration has moved from a static, unsearchable format to an Omeka digital collections site. The Omeka platform allows users to browse items, search (choosing between keyword, Boolean, and exact match options), and view the entire annotated list of periodicals.

If you would like to see Feminist Periodicals issues from 1981 to 2017, please go to our institutional repository here.

Please note that each periodical's contents may not be included in every issue of Feminist Periodicals. Inclusion is dependent on a variety of factors, including the publication schedule of each journal and timing of the receipt of periodical content information.
